Mencken, not known for his appreciation of democracy, didn't say what awaits us in the future after the presidency of an idiot, which could represent the end of democracy as we knew it. Therefore, after the plutocracy has chosen an idiot for the people to vote for, the plutocracy can choose the next ones without the people's vote.
