To the crushing defeat of the Democratic Party we will have to add the embarrassing fact that Kamala Harris had 13 million fewer votes than Joe Biden in 2020. On the other hand, Donald Trump had approximately the same votes as in 2020. We therefore have to conclude that it was not Trump who defeated Harris, it was Harris who defeated herself due to the loss of Democratic votes.

In any case, Trump managed to gain greater support in some sectors of the electorate as shown in the chart, especially among white non-college men and women, which is consistent with the estimates I cited yesterday of the three-quarters of votes cast by white workers and evangelicals. Another noteworthy fact and another humiliating defeat for Harris was Trump's 10% margin in the Hispanic vote, which had been 20% for Biden in 2020.
